Yea, Snarky and the Saints Home Opener
What you need to know in New Orleans this week.
This week's Milk Run starts fast with daytime action today at the Rock 'n' Bowl (see the BTE Open in "Other Stuff") and Yeasayer tonight at the Republic. Here's the upcoming week at a glance.
Friday: Yeasayer, Daedelus, 9 p.m., The Republic: The Brooklyn indie rock band's one constant is stylistic change, and the recent Fragrant World finds them putting aside their maximalist impulses in favor of a more techno-pop mode. (tickets)

Sunday: Tycho, The Album Leaf, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: A night of lovely, ambient electronic music with Tycho from San Francisco and The Album Leaf from San Diego. (tickets)
Monday: I Was Totally Destroying It, Faun Fables, Kara Mann, 10 p.m., Circle Bar: A good night of indie and underground rock headlined by a power pop (yay!) band from Chapel Hill.
Tuesday: Nine Lives: A Musical Story of New Orleans, 7 p.m., Dixon Hall at Tulane University: Paul Sanchez and Colman DeKay adapted Dan Baum's excellent book Nine Lives into a musical. They're trying to find the backing to help it come to fruition, but it's already a compelling musical experience with the songs performed by a host of singers strung together by narration.
Also on Tuesday: Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, Foxy Shazam, 8 p.m., House of Blues.
Wednesday: Snarky Puppy, Funky Knuckles, Robin Clabby, 7 p.m., Maison: A night of very funky jazz (or is it jazzy funk?) from young Texas bands, with the Brass-a-Holics' Robin Clabby opening.

Thursday: Bounce XVIII, 11 p.m., The Republic: Nicky da B booked this bounce party, which includes a number of dance teams along with DJ Jubilee, Walt Wiggity, Josephine Donald, Clacker the Attacker and Rusty Lazer.
OTHER STUFF
There was a time when Better Than Ezra raised money for its BTE Foundation through a golf tournament, but it left fans out of the loop. They remade the BTE Open as a bowling tournament, and it returns Friday at 2 p.m. with the band, sponsors and celebrity friends bowling. Fans can attend for $50, which entitles them to the open bar and food but not bowling. Later that night at the Harrahs' Casino Theater, they'll play a Patrons' Party that includes an open bar, food, and silent and public auctions.
Also on Friday is "Come Grow with Us," a benefit for Liberty's Kitchen. Mia Borders and the Brass-a-Holics will perform, and food will be prepared by chefs from Dominica, Restaurant Patois, Le Petite Grocerie, Boucherie and more. The night starts at 7 at the Howlin' Wolf and tickets are $60 at the door.
On Sunday, the Saints open the regular season at home against the Washington Redskins. The Redskins come in with rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, and while he moves well, his strength in college was his arm. That means the ball will be in the air a lot, and historically, that means defenses will get some chances to take balls away. This should be an enjoyable start to the season.
The fourth annual New Orleans Burlesque Festival starts on Thursday night and runs through the weekend with events at the Harrah's Theater and the House of Blues. The festival draws talent and fans from around the country, and includes contemporary and classic burlesque stars, and it culminates with the "Queen of Burlesque" competition, with the dancers performing with a live jazz band.
