Wednesday: Robert Plant presents The Sensational Space Shifters, Lil Band o' Gold, 8 p.m., Mahalia Jackson Theater: The rock legend's latest incarnation puts his daliance with country behind him, embracing his hard rock background with his current band. He has performed Fats Domino songs with openers Lil Band o' Gold, so Plant's fascination with American roots music likely won't be wholly on hold. Thursday: The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon, This Century, Brighten, 6:30 p.m., House of Blues: The Arizona-based pop/rock band has made its name making young crowds happy; with the recent Forever Halloween, they've made a bid for maturity and credibility. Starting Friday at 5:30 p.m., Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center will screen nightly (except Monday) Sing Me the Songs That Say I Love You: A Concert for Kate McGarrigle. McGarrigle was one half of the Canadian folk duo, and she was mother to Rufus and Martha Wainwright before she died in 2010. The two put on a show in memory that featured guest appearances by Jimmy Fallon, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Antony Hegarty and more, and that concert is the centerpiece of the film, which also includes home movies, archival footage and interviews with family and friends.
San Fermin in Nueva Orleans - The Running of the Bulls - has become a thing, now in its seventh year. There are events and parties throughout the weekend, but the centerpiece is Saturday morning's "El Encierro," when Big Easy Roller Girls armed with plastic bats become the bulls and chase runners through the streets of the CBD and French Quarter.
