Saturday: Kenny Chesney, 7 p.m., House of Blues: In my interview with Americana singer/songwriter Todd Snider, he talks admiringly about Kenny Chesney, and my experience with big time country shows is that when you see them, you understand why country stars are so big. Watch the show as a pop clinic and you can learn a lot, as well as hear some pretty bulletproof melodies. The show is presented by the Brees Dream Foundation and is the culmination of its “Amazing Race” fundraiser. Chelsea Handler's become as well known for her woozy persona and E! Channel show's raking of the day in celebrity news, but she started as an actress and stand-up comic. Friday night, she'll perform at the Mahalia Jackson Theater as part of her "Uganda Be Kidding Me" tour.
This weekend, Bayou Boogaloo presents familiar festival fare on three stages on the banks of Bayou St. John in Mid-City. Bayou Boogaloo is free and starts tonight with Nigel Hall and King James and the Special Men topping the bill. Saturday, Eric Lindell and former Radiator Ed Volker close the stages, and Sunday ends with Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys, and Mister Fred and his Round Pegs, which includes Beth Patterson, Lynn Drury, John Lisi and Mark Mullins.
