Friday: My Spilt Milk and Simple Play Present Black Taxi, Autotomii, 10 p.m., The Hi Ho Lounge: Brooklyn's Black Taxi doesn't sound retro or new wave despite the way they draw on the '80s, perhaps because they draw so broadly from the era that they have their own original dance rock sound. They've developed their following with their high energy show, but last year's We Don't Know Any Better shows they have songs as well. Monday: Tatsuya Nakatani with Gillet/Cambre/Thompson/Miller/Albert, 10 p.m., AllWays Lounge: This gathering of the improv tribe will feature Helen Gillet, Rob Cambre, William Thompson, Donald Miller and Jeff Albert performing in a variety of combinations with percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani, who's known for his use of bows on gongs. Miss Pussycat's North Pole Nutrias introduced New Orleans to her puppet world when it debuted on Cox Cable in time for Christmas 2002. She performs her puppet shows live and on film, and Friday night she debuts her newest and most ambitious project, The Mystery in Old Bathbath. The film will screen at The Prytania at 10 p.m., with Quintron performing as guests enter the theater. Tickets are on sale now.
Rising Tide is an annual post-Katrina conference in New Orleans to discuss the state of the city and its culture. On Saturday, Rising Tide 7.5 will examine New Orleans' creative future at The Healing Center at 10 a.m., when local organizations that support the arts including Youth Orchestra of the Lower Ninth Ward, The Musician’s Clinic, Young Audiences, and the Monumental Task Committee will talk about what they do and why. After a break, writer Moira Crone will read from her new novel, Not Yet - a post-apocalyptic story set on the Isle of Orleans. Admission is free.
