Shorty Goes Silent
In 2006, Trombone Shorty killed with this version of "Silent Night."
Saturday night, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave. will play the House of Blues. It appears to be a Christmas tradition in the making, perhaps because his touring schedule leads him here for the holidays.
In 2006, he made a memorable appearance on the short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Aaron Sorkin's drama that took place behind the scenes of a Saturday Night Live-like show. The story dealt with members of the studio band calling in sick to give work to out of work New Orleans musicians after Hurricane Katrina, and it culminated with this scene. It's great to see the late Frederick "Shep" Sheppard on sax next to Shorty.
