Other Stuff

The members of Steely Dan were never young men. Musically and lyrically, the band has embraced a number of musical values, impetuous youth not being one of them. The upside of that is that Becker and Fagan's musical home hasn't dilapidated with age, unlike those of many of their peers. They play the UNO Lakefront Arena Saturday night. (tickets)

Saturday and Sunday, the 4th Annual New Orleans Daiquiri Festival takes place at 548 Marigny St. It will feature food, snowballs, craft daiquiris, and music from The Hot 8 Brass Band, The Original Pinettes Brass Band, Tank and the Bangas, The Honorable South, Cardinal Sons, Micah McKee & Little Maker, MadFro, YUGEN , Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why, Rhymeschemepatternz, and ian a. Louis.

Sunday night, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will play a benefit show for Tipitina's Foundation at the Saenger Theatre. Marsalis' recent visits to New Orleans have been with big, ambitious projects, so it will be nice to see him do something less conceptual. (tickets)
