Friday: Galactic with Dumpstaphunk and Soul Rebels, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: A colossal night of New Orleans funk that benefits former Galactic front man Theryl “Houseman” DeClouet, who’s trying to move back to New Orleans. (tickets) Also on Friday: Mississippi Rail Co., Sexual Thunder!, 10 p.m., Gasa Gasa (tickets); The Radiators, Marc Stone and Joshua Paxton, 10 p.m., Tipitina’s (tickets); The Write Brothers CD release show, 8 p.m., Chickie Wah Wah; Suplecs, DiNOLA, 10 p.m., d.b.a.

Saturday: Ben Howard, 9 p.m., Civic Theatre: The chart-topping British singer/songwriter’s show has sold out or is close to a sell-out, and his live shows have become larger, musically richer events than earlier tours, when he was a sad lad obsessing over his acoustic guitar. (tickets) Also on Saturday: Mother Falcon, Scordatura String Band, 10 p.m., Gasa Gasa (tickets); Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, Cliff Hines and Friends, 10 p.m., Freret Street Publiq House (tickets); The Radiators, Honey Island Swamp Band acoustic, 10 p.m., Tipitina’s (tickets); Cedric Burnside Project, Leo Bud Welch, 11 p.m., d.b.a.

Sunday: Marcello Benetti Shuffled 4et, 9 p.m., Cafe Istanbul: On Shuffled, four of New Orleans’ top improvisors—Benetti, Jeff Albert, Helen Gillet, and Rex Gregory—play jazz with the vitality of pure improvisation but enough organization to suggest that it’s at least partly composed. Also on Sunday: Sentry, Ellipser, 10 p.m., Circle Bar;

Wednesday: Billy Idol, Broncho, 7 p.m., House of Blues: Billy Idol’s new album, Kings & Queens of the Underground, isn’t a cause for celebration—not enough big songs, too much melancholy that’s outside his emotional wheelhouse—but I’m curious about how well his charisma survives age and sobriety. (tickets) Also on Wednesday: Badfish: a Tribute to Sublime, 9 p.m., Tipitina’s (tickets)

Thursday: Larkin Poe, Emily Kopp, 8 p.m., The Beatnik: On last year’s Kin, Atlanta sister act Larkin Poe transformed their folk into a heavier, stompy blues rock that’s a lot of fun. (tickets) Also on Thursday: Bounce XLV feat. Big Freedia, DJ Jubilee, Hasizzle, Gotty Boi Chris, BJ So Cole, DJ Lil Man, 11 p.m., The Republic (tickets); Rebelution, Katchafire, Khris Royal and Dark Matter, 8:30 p.m., Joy Theater (tickets)

Other Stuff
It’s hard to believe that nine years have passed since the Hot 8 Brass Band’s drummer Dinerral Shavers was shot and killed. On Saturday, Dinerral Shavers Education Fund will present its 7th Annual Brass Band Blowout featuring the Hot 8 Brass Band, TBC Brass Band, Most Wanted Brass Band, and more at The Howlin’ Wolf. (tickets)

Taylor Lee Shepard created and installed “Alterpiece” in St. Maurice Church (605 St. Maurice St. in Holy Cross) to coincide with Prospect.3. The piece visually interprets sound, and on Sunday at 5 p.m. sharp, Quintron will provide the music with Weather Warlock—his band named for the weather-activated droning synthesizer that he created. Mountain of Wizard and C-Section 8 will also be on the bill.
