Friday: Tipitina's 35th Anniversary with Eric Lindell, Colin Lake, 10 p.m., Tipitina's:The New Orleans Uptown club celebrates its anniversary every January, and it starts a month that will also include a Radiators reunion, BB King, Los Lobos and the Drive-By Truckers with a night with local bluesmen Eric Lindell and Colin Lake. Saturday: Leon Russell, Brint Anderson, 9 p.m., House of Blues: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member has aged well, as his recent activity will attest. His appearance in New Orleans last year with Bob Dylan was straight out of the early 1970s, complete with a cover of "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Tuesday: One Night of Elvis: From Tupelo to Vegas featuring Clockwork Elvis, 8 p.m., House of Blues: The House of Blues celebrates Elvis Presley's birthday with the city's preeminent Elvis cover band that also references a Stanley Kubrick movie. (tickets)
Wednesday: First Annual New Orleans Viewer's Choice Awards, 7 p.m., Tipitina's: Nicole Perry, host of NOA-TV's Talk to Me New Orleans presents the program's first awards show, recognizing New Orleans hip-hop, R&B and community leaders. It will be emceed By Rude Jude, with appearances by N04, Undefeated Divas, Lil Razor, Sess 45, Raw Dizzy, Frank Nitti, Platinum Girls, All Star Ladies, Cheeky Blakk, Men of Class, Baby Boyz Brass Band, Big Herk and Action Jackson. Other Stuff
Sunday marks Twelfth Night, and the parading begins with the Joan of Arc Parade, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Bienville statue, marches through the Quarter on Chartres Street, and ends at the Joan of Arc statue.
Tuesday night, Jersey Boys starts a month-long run at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. The musical tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and it will play nightly (except Mondays) through January 27. Tickets are on sale now.
Bill Johnston has been a long-time part of the New Orleans music community since his days at The Warehouse. He was diagnosed with throat cancer early last year, and has undergone chemo and radiation treatments to help deal with it. Thursday night, there will be a Benefit for Bill Johnston at the Joy Theater with a silent auction that starts at 6 p.m. and a show that starts at 7. Comedian Jodi Borrello will emcee a show that will include performances from the shows "Joint's Jumpin'" - which Johnson created to celebrate the golden age of New Orleans R&B while at Harrah's Casino - and "The Warehouse New Orleans … Revisited," another show he created.
