This week's Freshly Spilt Milk features new music from Slow Hands, Vicetone, Phantoms, Kenton Slash Demon and more.
1. “Phonograph Love” – Slow Hands: The eerie synths and pads that hover above the organic percussion create an intriguing texture on this single from Slow Hands’ forthcoming album, “I’ll Find Me” due out November 6.
2. “Harpe” – Kenton Slash Demon: “Harpe” is a carefully layered house track with eclectic elements that make the track feel simultaneously premeditated and unexpected. KSD is a recent addition to the Australian indie label, Future Classic.
3. “The Whistle” (Radio Edit) – Mauro Picotto: “The Whistle” is an upbeat techno track that finds a groove early then maintains it throughout the piece. It is the first single released from Picotto’s forthcoming album, From Heart to Techno, out October 16.
4. “Broken Halo feat. Nicholas Braun” – Phantoms: This club-ready heater is highly addictive and I can’t help but draw comparisons to Disclosure in terms of the production quality and composition. You can catch Phantoms at Gasa Gasa on November 14.
5. “Catch Me” – Vicetone: I had to include this one for its admirable use of the cheesy 'secret-agent' guitar. With “Catch Me,” this duo from the Netherlands has created a refreshing and creative progressive house single with several oft-neglected sounds.
6. “Hold Up Wait A Minute” – ZHU x Bone Thugs-N-Harmony x Trombone Shorty: Zhu, the extremely secretive producer who has been known to put on shows where cell-phones are locked away at the entrance, has teamed up with hip-hop legends Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and the talented, community-minded New Orleanian musician, Trombone Shorty, to produce this genre-blending masterpiece. You can have the rare opportunity to see Zhu live on October 31 at Voodoo Music and Arts Experience.
7. “Ashley” – Lido and Santell: In conjunction with Lido, the consistently quality-driven producer, Santell delivers vocals that feel inspired by the darker side of the Weeknd.
8. “Queso” – Pell: Amidst head-nodding instrumentation and a super catchy hook, Pell is “addicted to your thoughts of death.” This song is impressive on so many levels; a guilty pleasure and underground treasure rolled into one. Pick up Pell’s album, LIMBO, on November 6 via Federal Prism Records.
