Anders Osborne and My Spilt Milk celebrate the season, and DJ Shadow, Chris Smither, and Susan Cowsill are among the highlights.
Friday: Anders Osborne's Holiday Spectacular, 10 p.m., Tipitina's: The first of two nights with guitarist Anders Osborne leading a star-studded show with guests including Lee Oskar, Luther Dickinson, Shannon McNally, Bonerama and more. Saturday: Susan Cowsill Band performs "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," 10 p.m., Carrollton Station: Susan Cowsill's final "Covered in Vinyl" at Carrollton Station will be Elton John's classic Goodbye Yellow Brick Road with musical guests Jimmy Robinson, Alex McMurray, Pete Winkler, Janson Lohmeyer, Sam Craft, Mary Lasseigne, Alexis Marceaux, Skeet Hanks, Caleb Guillotte, Alexandra Scott and Russ Broussard. Sunday: Arturo O'Farrill, 8 & 10 p.m., Snug Harbor: The Grammy-winning Latin jazz pianist plays a special show with his trio at Snug Harbor.
Monday: John Wesley Coleman III, Yelaphant, 10 p.m., The Circle Bar: Lo-fi Texas folk wildman Coleman comes to The Circle Bar. Also on Monday: Andrew Combs, Sam Doores, Riley Downing and the Tumbleweeds, 10 p.m., AllWays Lounge
Tuesday: The Eastern Sea, Bantam Foxes, My Father's Rifle, 10 p.m., The Circle Bar: Austin-based indie rock band The Eastern Sea has been very productive, releasing the album Plague earlier in the year and This is Christmas recently.
Wednesday: DJ Shadow, 10 p.m., The Republic: DJ Shadow made his name with the ground-breaking album Endtroducing, and the breadth of genres and artists from whom he has pulled samples - along with the creativity with which he's employed them - remains his hallmark. (tickets).
Thursday: Chris Smither, 8 p.m., Chickie Wah Wah; The long-time folkie regularly returns to New Orleans, where he grew up and started his musical career when he won a battle of the bands at the Saenger while going to high school at Ben Franklin.

OTHER STUFF
Sunday night at 7, DJ Soul Sister will host a free screening of Wheedle's Groove at the New Orleans African American Museum of Art. The documentary tells the story of Seattle's funk scene from the 1960 and '70s.
Thursday night, I will host the 4th annual Caroling Pub Crawl meeting Uptown at The Kingpin (1307 Lyons St.) at 7 p.m. We will drink and sing our way around the neighborhood and hope you'll join us.
