Massachusetts-based Martin Sexton's on his way to SXSW with a new album, Sugarcoating, and Duhon has a new album as well, The Moorings. Saturday: Kishi Bashi, Tall Tall Trees, Native America, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Kishi Bashi splits the difference between Andrew Bird and Theresa Andersson. Each makes extensive use of looping pedals and violins, but his pieces are more open-ended than Andersson's, but more immediately song-oriented that Bird's. He's particularly interested in textures, but never at the expense of the songs. Sunday: Pinback, JP Inc., 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Since Pinback tours and records on its own pokey calendar, this show is an event. Just as its schedule is clearly and deliberately the band's own, so are the shows. Reports from the tour so far have all been positive, with the shows splitting between older and new material. Thursday: Davis Rogan, 6 p.m., The Ogden Museum of Southern Art: The Ogden has a show of costumes - particularly Indian suits - from Treme on display, and it has a series of Treme-related performers scheduled for "Ogden After Hours" this month. Davis Rogan has made his career a form of performance art, and parlayed his status as the inspiration for Davis McAlary into an album, The Real Davis, which examines the complicated relationship he has with the world around him. Tony Skratchere's background is as a battle DJ, and he will host the 2013 DMC New Orleans Regional DJ Battle Preview with TheLostArt.com at 10:30 p.m. at The Hangar Friday night.
Starting Friday, Buku returns for a second year to Mardi Gras World, this year with a lineup that is once again EDM-heavy, but also with hip-hop (Kendrick, Lamar, Public Enemy), rock (Passion Pit, Best Coast), and artists who work the ground somewhere in-between (Calvin Harris, STRFKR). Buku has expanded from two to three stages to accommodate a strong lineup of DJs and EDM artists.
Wednesday, Sherie Tucker, author of Swing Shift: "All-Girl" Bands in the 1940s, will deliver a talk, "Not the Whole Storyville: Learning from New Orleans Jazzwomen." It'll take place in the Qatar Ballroom in the Lavick-Bernick Center on the Tulane campus at 6:30 p.m.
