Wednesday: Billy Idol, Broncho, 7 p.m., House of Blues: Billy Idol’s new album, Kings & Queens of the Underground, isn’t a cause for celebration—not enough big songs, too much melancholy that’s outside his emotional wheelhouse—but I’m curious about how well his charisma survives age and sobriety. Thursday: Larkin Poe, Emily Kopp, 8 p.m., The Beatnik: On last year’s Kin, Atlanta sister act Larkin Poe transformed their folk into a heavier, stompy blues rock that’s a lot of fun. It’s hard to believe that nine years have passed since the Hot 8 Brass Band’s drummer Dinerral Shavers was shot and killed. On Saturday, Dinerral Shavers Education Fund will present its 7th Annual Brass Band Blowout featuring the Hot 8 Brass Band, TBC Brass Band, Most Wanted Brass Band, and more at The Howlin’ Wolf. Taylor Lee Shepard created and installed “Alterpiece” in St. Maurice Church (605 St. Maurice St. in Holy Cross) to coincide with Prospect.3. The piece visually interprets sound, and on Sunday at 5 p.m. sharp, Quintron will provide the music with Weather Warlock—his band named for the weather-activated droning synthesizer that he created. Mountain of Wizard and C-Section 8 will also be on the bill.
