Tuesday: Dave and Phil Alvin with the Guilty Ones, Johnny J. and the Hitmen, 8 p.m., Rock ’n’ Bowl: The Alvin brothers have rarely performed together since Dave left The Blasters. but they came together to celebrate their shared love of bluesman Big Bill Broonzy when they recorded the album Common Ground.
Wednesday: Jolie Holland, Shy Hunters, 8 p.m., House of Blues: Jolie Holland's folk rock has been a little mannered in the past; it's a lot mannered on The Wine Dark Sea, which trades in her love of melody for Waitsian distortion and yowl. Photographer Skip Bolen has opened LA46, a "general store and vintage market" at 2232 St. Claude Ave. Saturday night at 6, bassist James Singleton will perform, and Houston mural artist Sharla Hammond will create a mural outdoors with the the theme "Everyday People."
