This Week's Soundtrack
1. "Be My Bride" - Desmond Dekker: The ska great here does a voice and piano version from the new album of old tapes, As You Have Never Heard Before.
2. "What Kind of Cool (Will We Think of Next)" - Cody ChesnuTT: A smart, new, soulful track from his new album, Landing on a Hundred.
3. "Rooftops" - Wiz Khalifa (with Curren$y): Wiz Khalifa performs DAY at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
4. "Yes Infuckindeed" - Lyrikill: The local rapper plays The Howlin' Wolf's Den on Saturday.
5. "Bingo Bango" - The Hot 8 Brass Band: The Hot 8 are part of a benefit for those affected by Hurricane Sandy, along with Eric Lindell, Camile Baudoin and Friends, and more. The show takes place Tuesday at The Howlin' Wolf.
6. "Montreal" - The Weeknd: The Toronto-based R&B artist has collected his last three mixtapes as a new album, Trilogy.
7. "Ding Dong Bells" - Karriem Riggins: This drummer's album Alone Together is right up my alley - a series of great grooves that all sound like they came from a great soundtrack.
8. "Can't Stop My Money" - Juvenile: Thanksgiving turkey-induced lethargy is no obstacle for Juvie; he plays the House of Blues later Thursday night.
9. "Fire Sacrifice" - Prince Rama: On Top Ten Hits of the End of the World, the band adopts a series of identities and theoretically channels those bands.
10. "Champagne" - Lust for Youth: Austere, minimal electronic music from Sweden and the album, Growing Seeds.
11. "Kerosene" - Crystal Castles: This Toronto-based electronic duo made cool electropop with punk moments on its first album, electrogoth on its second, and vascillates between these two sounds on the new III.
12. "Misty" - Clinic: Dark, fuzzy psychedelia from Liverpool on the new Free Reign.
13. "Super Vague" - Roomrunner: The Baltimore-based band plays The Circle Bar Wednesday.
14. "The Nights of Wine and Roses" - Japandroids: The Vancouver garage-punk duo plays One Eyed Jacks Sunday night.
15. "Since June" - Eric Lindell: Lindell plays Saturday night at Tipitina's and Tuesday night at The Howlin' Wolf at the Hurricane Sandy benefit.
16. "Shelter Me" - Tab Benoit: Benoit plays The House of Blues on Wednesday night.
17. "Like a Hurricane" - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit: The one-time Drive-By Trucker was a guitar hero when he was in the band, so it's understandable that he concludes his new live album, Live in Alabama, with a version of the Neil Young classic.
18. "Thanksgiving Theme" - Vince Guaraldi Trio: A Charlie Brown Christmas has been reissued and reissued and reissued, and I don't play Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. This year's reissue includes the Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Thanksgiving Theme" from 1973's A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving.
