Quintron and Miss Pussycat Headline Bunny Matthews Benefit Tonight

BunnyFest will raise money to help the New Orleans artist and critic deal with the medical costs brought on by his diagnosis of brain cancer.

On June 23, Bunny Matthews announced on Facebook, “I have brain cancer.” Since then, the New Orleans artist, writer, and agent provocateur has made his page his most compelling work—not simply a diary or meditation on the process of dealing with cancer, but a place to be himself when there’s no compelling reason to fudge the truth or protect his interests. He writes openly with fear, love, anger and uncertainty not just about frailty, treatment, and his life. Between those posts, he shows excellent taste in music and sexy women.

Tonight, Tipitina’s and Bunny’s son Jude will host BunnyFest, a benefit for Matthews to help with his medical bills. Quintron and Miss Pussycat will perform, along with King James and The Special Men, Guitar Lightnin' Lee and His Thunder Band, The Lonely Lonely Knights, O.L.D., and The Creole String Beans. There will also be a raffle and a silent auction. 

For years, Matthews has done posters for bands he likes. For the occasion, he has done one for himself. “This is the first poster I've designed since I was diagnosed with cancer,” he wrote on Facebook. “I can hardly be as precise as I once was, but the average person could care less. ...not saying that I'm average!”
