Marshmello Keeps It Mello
Tonight, the newest masked man in electronic dance music travels to New Orleans for the first time.
Marshmello hides his identity on and off the stage. In public, he always wears a white marshmallow-shaped helmet to hide his face, much like Daft Punk or Deadmau5 do during their performances. He also wears all white from head to toe to better resemble an actual marshmallow. The surface of his white marshmallow-shaped helmet is covered with LED lights, which extends the light show to his head! The elements of mystery and 'cuteness' of the marshmallow costume made is meteoric rise viral. Festivals and electronic music performances this year have been sprinkled with his fans, known as #MelloGang. He has already gained the loyalty and recognition from fans and fellow producers that it typically takes much longer to accomplish. This Thursday, Marshmello plays New Orleans for the first time at The Republic.
New on the electronic music scene, trap producer Marshmello is a lot of things, but mellow isn't one of them. His smiling marshmallow face has been popping up everywhere lately. He has been touring most of 2016 and hit the summer festival circuit, including Ultra Miami, Lollapalooza, and Shaky Beats. Marshmello has collaborated with Jauz, Slushii, and Far East Movement this, and released his debut studio album Joytime. His uplifting trap music blends trap and house with playful high notes, as you can hear on Joytime's "Keep It Mello." The music video for the song also reflects a sense of humor as he wakes up and lives his life in costume. He even eats a bowl of tiny marshmallows as if it were cereal, and goes to a house party where all of the alcoholic drinks are replaced with marshmallows. He also pulled off one of the most epic Mannequin Challenges so far, with thousands of his fans.
