Jazz Fest Preview: Our Picks for Weekend Two
Our highlights for the weekend ahead at the Fair Grounds.
After all the rain and muck of Jazz Fest 2013, it was a relief to have good weather at the Fair Grounds last weekend. A foul weather Jazz Fest has its own weird energy, but it's so tiring slogging through mud and having to carefully choose every step that the day becomes exhausting. This weekend looks to be even nicer with highs in the low 80s on Saturday and Sunday, and the music lineup looks stronger as well.
I'm looking forward to Thursday's return of A Tribe Called Red and Kenny Bill Stinson, and Solange was one of the highlights of Coachella this year. Friday could have been booked specifically for me with Hurray for the Riff Raff, Alejandro Escovedo, Tom McDermott, Charles Bradley, and The Alabama Shakes. On Saturday, I'm particularly fond of Jon Batiste and Stay Human's Social Music album, and I didn't entirely get The Arcade Fire until they played Jazz Fest, so I look forward to them on Sunday.
This weekend, I'll also conduct the interview with Robert Earl Keen on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Allison Miner Music Heritage Stage. I love the informality of conversations on that stage, and I expect that we'll have a good time Sunday. If you can make it, drop by and say hi.
