Friday: Agalloch, Taurus, Pallbearer, The Dropout, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Portland black metal band Agalloch rarely tours and doesn't do interviews, but Pitchfork says their Marrow of the Spirit "confirms Agalloch's place at the frontier of American metal." (Tickets)

Saturday: Dirty Projectors, Wye Oak, 9 p.m., House of Blues: The recent Swing Lo Magellan shows the band - Dave Longstreith, really - still in a great place with their music, remaining adventurous without being odd, complex without being complicated, and innovative without shirking basic pop pleasures. Tuesday: Big K.R.I.T., 9 p.m., House of Blues: Mississippi's Big K.R.I.T. was the biggest rapper without a proper album until June. He made his rep on mixtapes and guest spots, but his recent Live from the Underground shares their charms, complete with solid southern beats. (Tickets)
Thursday: Bounce XVII featuring Katey Red, Cheeky Blakk, Magnolia Rhome, Nicky Da B and more, 10 p.m., The Republic New Orleans: The Republic's bounce nights are out of control dance parties; this one also includes Hasizzle, Precious, Rapper Nelly, and Danger Boyz. (Tickets)

OTHER STUFF
Officially, Satchmo SummerFest starts on Friday with Louis Armstrong-oriented seminars in the third floor auditorium in the Old U.S. Mint, but the music starts Saturday at noon with performances on two stages by the Stooges Brass Band, Treme Brass Band, New Orleans Moonshiners, Treme Funktet with Corey Henry and Travis Hill, and more. On Sunday, music resumes at noon with Kermit Ruffins, Jeremy Davenport, Don Vappie, the Original Pinettes Brass Band and more taking the stage. The stages are also at the Old U.S. Mint.
Saturday night, Whitney White Linen Night takes place in and around the Warehouse District centering on Julia Street. It can be warm out there, but in recent years it has eclipsed Art for Art's Sake in terms of numbers of people in the art galleries. This year will also feature music on the streets by country songwriters Jim McCormick and Mark Carson, Picnic, and by Jim Smith's Damn Frontier. Here are The Times-Picayune's Doug MacCash's tips.
On Sunday, Siberia is screening two of filmmaker Peter Jackson's early films, Meet the Feebles and Dead Alive. You would never guess from the Lord of the Rings movies that he had these in them. Meet the Feebles presents The Muppets gone to seed, and Dead Alive is the horror film that the Monty Python crew would have made. How far does it go? A lawnmower's involved. Shows start at 7 p.m.
On Monday, Cafe Instanbul in the New Orleans Healing Center will show Thunder Soul, a documentary about the reunion of Houston's Kashmere High School Stage Band to pay tribute to the teacher who made them a powerful funk band in the 1970s. The screening is free and presented by the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation, and it will be hosted by DJ Soul Sister.
On Wednesday, Loyola University will host a "Public Forum on Journalism In New Orleans: Where Do We Go From Here?" New Orleans is about to take a giant step into the digital future whether it wants to or not, and this forum will address the issues connected to that (if it doesn't bog down in an anti-Nola.com bitchfest). The moderator will be Steve Beatty of The Lens - part of the New Orleans Digital News Alliance that also includes My Spilt Milk. Admission is free and the mayhem starts at 7 p.m.
