Kickstarter News with Dirtfoot and Bob Andrews
Two artists need your help to get their new albums into the world.
This year, I've been working with The Oxford American and the Louisiana Office of Tourism on the "Louisiana Soundtrack Experience," and we'll be in downtown Lafayette Saturday with a panel discussion with Lost Bayou Ramblers' Louis Michot, Yvette Landry, folklorist Barry Ancelet and writer Herman Fuselier, and a concert by Corey Ledet, and C.C. Adcock and the Lafayette Marquis with guests from Lil' Band o' Gold. If that day goes as well as our day in Shreveport did earlier this year, it will be special.
One of the highlights of the Shreveport Louisiana Soundtrack Experience stop was seeing Dirtfoot rock the Memorial Auditorium. The band has played New Orleans a number of times, but it has yet to find a regular musical home here for its "Gypsy punk country grumble boogie" - a sound that rocks and is less eclectic than the phrase might suggest. Dirtfoot's is looking for help to record a new album, and it has turned to Kickstarter for a second time with its eHat in its hand hoping you can help. Here's their pitch.
Keyboard player Bob Andrews has returned to Kickstarter for a second project as well, this one titled Set the Hammond on Fire. Andrews' musical history dates back to the British pub rock days as a member of Brinsley Schwarz with Nick Lowe, and to his days as the keyboard player with Graham Parker and the Rumour. Since moving to New Orleans, he had played with John Mooney, Royal Fingerbowl, and cut piano and keyboard-oriented albums on his own.
The planned album will focus on Andrews' talents on the B3, and it takes its name from the fact that his previous organ burned literally, not metaphorically. This Kickstarter project will help reunite him with his favorite instrument and give him a reason to show off what he can do.
