Tuesday: 3Now4 Reunion, 8 & 10 p.m., Snug Harbor: Bassist James Singleton and pedal steel wizard Dave Easley will get back together for a night for adventurous music, likely with guests since the band also included a number of horn players and drummers when it was more active.

Thursday: Wimbash “Old School Edition” feat. Doug Wimbish, Big Sam Williams, Nigel Hall and Khris Royal, 10 p.m., Tipitina’s: Bassist Doug Wimbish is best known as part of the Sugarhill Records house band, the Living Colour bassist, and part of Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound System. Tuesday night, One Eyed Jacks will present the Air Sex Championships with the same sort of miming performance executed when playing air guitar, but applied to sex. 

The Essence Music Festival starts Friday, July 4, but Thursday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, it will present the Essence NowPlaying Concert with Nas, Trey Songz, K. Michelle, and Jazmine Sullivan.
