The Cure to Do Voodoo

The reunited band plays New Orleans for the first time since 2000.

The Cure join the lineup for this year's Voodoo Music Experience, which will take place November 1-3 on City Park's Festival Grounds. The reunited British band joins a festival that includes Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Calvin Harris, Bassnectar, Paramore, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Afrojack, Boys Noize, Shovels and Rope, The Revivalists, Matt and Kim, How to Destroy Angels, Dr. John and many more.

The appearance is the band's first in New Orleans since it played a two-night stand at The Saenger on May 22 and 23, 2000. The lineup will feature singer Robert Smith and long-time members Simon Gallup (bass), Roger O'Donnell (keyboards), Jason Cooper (drums), and former David Bowie sideman Reeves Gabrels (guitar).

When The Cure closed this year's Lollapalooza, Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune reviewed the set:

Even Goth-rockers love singalongs. After the opening synth chords, the Cure's Robert Smith begins to belt out "Just Like Heaven" and is instantly joined by a Grant Park choir numbering in the tens of thousands. Smith and his bandmates sprinkle Cure classics such as "Pictures of You" and "Friday I'm in Love" through a set that continues the weekend's '80s nostalgia theme, begun by New Order and Nine Inch Nails. Smith is in fine voice, and he even pulls off a few interpretive dance moves -- a rare bout of friskiness from a singer who still sports frazzled hair, eye shadow and lipstick. It's become his trademark, and it's turned Smith somewhat timeless -- an ageless figure still singing about a type of loss, heartache and yearning that never dissipates.
