Tank, Galactic, Revivalists Coming to a Drive-In Near You
“The NOLA Drive-In Summer Concert Series” brings the Coronavirus concert experience to the Lakefront Arena parking lot.
The drive-in concert phenomenon comes to New Orleans this summer when C3, the producers for Voodoo, will present “The NOLA Drive-In Summer Concert Series.” On Friday, July 10, Tank and the Bangas will play at a drive-in concert space set up in the parking lot of the Lakefront Arena at 6 p.m., followed on Friday, July 17 by Galactic with Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, then on Friday, July 24 by The Revivalists. General admission and VIP car tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m.
The shows are being set up to allow people to watch the show and maintain social distancing. Parking spots will be set up to provide six feet of tailgating space beside each vehicle, then an additional six-foot buffer between them and the next car. Attendees will be allowed to bring their own blankets, chairs, coolers, drinks, and snacks, but they’ll be required to wear masks and maintain social distance when going to a bathroom.
Drive-in concerts have emerged as a way to get people together for concerts while the country struggles to get on top of COVID-19. This weekend, Garth Brooks will play a drive-in show that will be simulcast at drive-in locations around the country including the Cajundome parking lot in Lafayette. Yesterday, Live Nation announced a series of drive-in concerts in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Nashville July 10, 11, and 12 with Brad Paisley, Nelly, Darius Rucker, the Yacht Rock Revue, and more. So far, the artists and their target audiences have skewed older with the exception of electronic artist Marc Rebillet’s drive-in tour, which just started on Monday. The C3/Voodoo series is the first to focus on younger artists whose primary audiences are younger, and the series will be a good test of how socially distanced fans can stay.
