Of Montreal is here to remind you that there are weirder people out there, and weirdness is no obstacle to making compelling music. In their case, it likely helps. Saturday: Tank and the Bangas, DJ RQAway, 10 p.m., Tipitina’s: The band’s name sound like Tank and the Bangas are two separate things, but her presence is big enough and high-impact enough to be a banga herself. Sunday: il sogno del marinaio (with Mike Watt), 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Mike Watt joins guitarist Stefano Pilia and drummer Andrea Belfi to make a predominantly instrumental art/rock/jazz hybrid that remembers to be fun and physical. (tickets)

Helado Negro, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks: Ahmed Gallab performs as Sinkane, and his brand of soul music draws from his childhood in the Sudan, his interest in indie rock, and West African synth eccentric William Onyeabor. Tuesday: Joey Bada$$, The Soul Rebels, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, Nyck Cautionwith 5:30 p.m., House of Blues: Young Joey Bada$$ has made his name so far by harkening back to the moodier Native Tongues sound with his own worthy flow. His debut album is due out in December; it will be interesting to see if he debuts any of it and if it shows a time shift forward. Saturday, the Community Records Block Party presents almost 12 hours of music at the Carver Theater starting at 12:30 p.m. The massive lineup is on the show’s event page. You can also stream music by everybody who'll perform on a Community Records' Bandcamp page. Tickets are $20 at the door.
Prospect 3 officially starts Saturday at 10 a.m. when the gallery shows open. There will be a ribbon cutting, second line, and free lunch from Dooky Chase at 11 at Washington Square Park to give the international contemporary art festival a start. Saturday night, New Orleans’ hip-hop community will come together at the Joy Theater to celebrate its vitality at the NOLA Hip-Hop Awards. (tickets)
