Afghan Whigs Bring "Black Love" to Life Again for Dave Rosser

The band will revisit its 1996 classic album to help band member Dave Rosser with his medical bills.

This week, The Afghan Whigs announced that it will play two special shows, performing the band's 1996 album Black Love in its entirety. They'll play New Orleans at the Civic on December 10 and in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom December 14. Tickets are on sale now.

These shows are benefits for the band's guitarist Dave Rosser, who was recently diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer. According to band leader Greg Dulli, “Dave Rosser has been my close friend and bandmate for over a decade now. By doing these shows for him we hope to ease any financial stress he may face as he pursues treatment to combat his illness. One hundred percent of the proceeds for these shows will go to his medical care. I’m hopeful that folks will come out and show their support for Dave who will be performing with us.”

For these shows, The band will be joined by special guests. In New Orleans, Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, Morning 40 Federation, King James & The Special Men, and C.C. Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis will also be part of the show. In Los Angeles, Lanegan, Moby and Carina Round will perform as well.

Black Love turns 20 this year, so a 20th anniversary edition of the album will be released November 25 as a two-CD set or three-LP set as a part of National Record Store Day. The new edition will include nine previously unreleased tracks including demos, an acoustic version of "Going to Town," a piano-and-vocals cover of New Order's "Regret," and a couple of jams.
