Saturday: Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra with Ledisi, 10 p.m., Tipitina's: Part of the NOJO concept was to bring jazz to the people, and in recent years, it has gone to where people are. Mayfield and company start their fall season at Tipitina's with New Orleans-born R&B singer Ledisi joining them. (tickets)

Also on Saturday: Bachaco, 10 p.m., The Maple Leaf Bar; Coyotes; Today the Sun, Tomorrow the Moon; Alexis and the Samurai, 10 p.m., Circle Bar

Also on Sunday: James Singleton and Illuminasti, 8 & 10 a.m., Snug Harbor (tickets)

Monday: Amanda Palmer & the Grand Theft Orchestra, 9 p.m., Tipitina's: I'm not sure you can separate former Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer's music from her self-promotion efforts. Her art is being the theatrical entity known as Amanda Palmer, who blurs the distinctions between onstage and off. The Spotify version of her new album Theatre is Evil includes commentary for each of the tracks, which owe a debt to the Teutonic new wave of Nina Hagen and Lene Lovich. (tickets

Also on Monday: Citizen Cope, 10 p.m., The Howlin' Wolf (tickets); Black Taxi, Aerial Attack, 10 p.m., One Eyed Jacks (tickets)

Tuesday: Beach House, Dustin Wong, 10 p.m., Tipitina's: It feels awkward to keep focusing on Tipitina's shows, but the club booked a strong week including this Baltimore-based dream pop duo, whose Bloom from earlier this year is a series of beautifully rendered, lush songs that carry emotional weight. (tickets

Thursday: Jadakiss, 10 p.m., The Howlin' Wolf: The Ruff Ryder rapper is on Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam these days, and he has a new mixtape, I Love You. (tickets)

Also on Thursday, Firewater, 9 p.m.,Tipitina's (tickets); Nasimiyu Murumba, 6 p.m., Ogden Museum of Southern Art

OTHER STUFF

This weekend, the Broadway percussion extraganza Stomp will be at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for five shows including Saturday and Sunday matinees.

On Saturday, September 29, there will be a concert, "Fess' House Party New Orleans Style," and it will be preceded by the 1st Annual “Rhythm and Blues 5K Run.” The race starts at 5 p.m. at Tipitina's, and marching bands will serenade the runners along the way. There will be food and refreshments after the race, and there will be prizes awarded to those who run in the best costumes commemorating famous musicians.
