The biennial celebration of the unsung heroes of rock 'n' roll takes place this Friday and Saturday at the Orpheum, and we have a pair of two-day tickets to give away courtesy of the Ponderosa Stomp.

We have a pair of tickets to give away to see the Ponderosa Stomp concerts Friday and Saturday nights at the Orpheum Theater. Register here for a chance to win. Contest closes Thursday at 8 p.m. Central.

The Ponderosa Stomp is a three-day celebration of the artists left out of the rock 'n' roll story, and it features forgotten hitmakers, overlooked talents, regional heroes and, for the first time, relatively modern garage bands. The lineup includes Gary U.S. Bonds ("Quarter to Three"), Roky Erickson playing The Thirteenth Floor Elevators ("You're Gonna Miss Me"), Archie Bell ("Tighten Up"), and Carla Thomas ("B-A-B-Y"), as well as Gulf Coast Stomp favorites Barbara Lynn and Roy Head.

One of the strengths of the Stomp has been the way it pairs performers with sympathetic backing bands that work to present their songs as faithfully as possible. Because of that, the Stomp's swamp pop and Texas honky tonk revues recreate the sounds in their classic glory.
