My Spilt Milk Presents GIVERS at One Eyed Jacks Wednesday, November 25, and we have two pairs of tickets to give away to the show.

When GIVERS released their debut album, 2011's In Light, the trait they had to account for was their buoyant energy. "Up Up Up" was an apt signature track. Friday the band released its second album, New Kingdom, and it's merely up. Their sound remains psychedelic in its dense layers, and polyrhythmic by default. New Kingdom doesn't evoke its own world in the way In Light did, but the band sounds more rooted in the real world than it did the first time out. This time, GIVERS sound like a band, not a cult.

They can still go to the effervescent place, though. They may not live there, but they still have the keys, and "Record High Record Low" is as convincing a signature track as "Up Up Up." "Wishing Well" is perfectly funky dance rock, and this time these stand-alone tracks are balanced by songs that give the album gravity and a less giddy rhythm.

My Spilt Milk is pleased to present GIVERS at One Eyed Jacks Wednesday, November 25, and we have two pairs of tickets to give away to the show. Register here for a chance to win. The contest closes Tuesday, November 24 at 5 p.m. Central Time.
