Voodoo News: Friday's Picks

The weather report for this weekend's Voodoo Music and Arts Experience isn't promising. The rain that has prompted parishes to push trick-or-treating up from Saturday to Friday is projected to fall in City Park as well. With that in mind, a) get your foul weather gear together, and b) Friday could be the best day and night to be at Voodoo. 

Fortunately, it has a promising lineup. Headliner Florence and the Machine's set in 2010 is one of Voodoo's all-time highlights as she stole the day from the late afternoon position. All of the stage closers are strong, and I love Americana dudes Ryan Bingham and Jason Isbell back to back, though I wonder how either will cut through the ambient sound and energy of the Voodoo grounds.

In 2014, we wrote about electonic folk-rock band Hundred Waters, so I'm looking forward to seeing them, as well as The Soul Rebels collaboration with Joey Bada$$. Almost since their inception, The Soul Rebels distinguished themselves when they played hip-hop by sounding like they like hip-hop, and that hasn't changed over the years. They've played with Bada$$ before, so unlike some collaboration sets, there's reason to expect they'll be together and able to do something cool.
