Jazz Fest: Sunday, May 3 at Jazz Fest

Our schedule and highlights for the final day this year.

If Saturday's crowd at Jazz Fest wasn't record-breaking, it was at least enough to make everything difficult. When Davell Crawford's tribute to Fats Domino ended at 2:45, I started to head toward Congo Square on the track, but it was quickly clear that I was going to be shoulder to shoulder with people all way. After a resigned sigh, I went the other way. The upside? I walked by Astral Project in the Jazz Tent and saw a couple of songs before Jerry Lee Lewis started.

Today won't be that kind of mayhem. The second Sunday has come to feel a little like the festival's afterparty with a lot of local acts that play to the festival's roots. I look forward to The Meters reunion, Kacey Musgraves, and Trombone Shorty's closing set last year was an impressively relaxed funk jam. It will be interesting to see how following Lenny Kravitz affects his set.

Also see gospel, also see traditional jazz, and after yesterday, get out of my way when I need a beer! That's the real problem with big crowds--what they do to beer lines.
