This Week's Spotify Soundtrack touches on the season, explores Latin jazz, and previews shows by The Eastern Sea, Roseanne Cash, Soul Sister's Christmas Jam and more.

This Week's Spotify Soundtrack looks ahead to shows by Roseanne Cash, The Eastern Sea, DJ Shadow, Amy LaVere, Hot 8 Brass Band and more, along with a few for the holiday and more.

This Week's Soundtrack:

1. "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt" - DJ Shadow: From his classic debut album, Endtroducing. Shadow will be at The Republic Thursday.

2. "Primate Boogaloo" - Quantic featuring Aspects

3. "Latin Strut" - Joe Bataan: Right now, I'm reading Will Hermes' Love Goes to Buildings on Fire, a book about music in New York City in the early to mid-'70s, a time when NYC lived up to the hype and made compelling, innovative music across a host of genres - inventing them, in some cases. The music I know the least about of everything he talks about is Latin jazz and boogaloo, so I'm exploring some of the tracks he talks about here.

4. "Acid" - Ray Barretto: More Latin jazz.

5. "Boogaloo Blues" - Johnny Colon: And more.

6. "What's My Name (Rock with the Hot 8)" - Hot 8 Brass Band: The Hot 8 plays the Soul Sister Soul Glo Christmas Jam at Tipitina's Friday.

7. "Cure for Pain" - Morphine: At Jazz Fest, Members of Morphine with Jeremy Lyons played one of those sets that was perfect for the space. In the Blues Tent, the bass and baritone sax combo seemed massive on the cement floor. They play d.b.a. Saturday under their other name, The Ever Expanding Elastic Waste Band. Same music, though.

8. "Borzeguim" - Nova Banda, Antonio: A track by bossa nova master Antonio Carlos Jobim, who will be the focus of Irvin Mayfield's NOJO Jam at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse Wednesday.

9. "Santa Claus Dub" - The Aggrovators: A Christmas dub for those who find the songs of the season lyrically oppressive.

10. "Piss Factory" - Patti Smith: Talked about in Love Goes to Buildings on Fire, but also a song for those who find songs of the season lyrically oppressive.

11. "Can You Keep a Secret" - Epic Soundtracks: The cover of Patti Smith's Horses made me think of the cover of Everything is Temporary by Nikki Sudden's brother, Epic Soundtracks.

12. "Wasn't for Love" - The Eastern Sea: From Plague. They play Tuesday at The Circle Bar.

13. "Moral Kiosk" (live) - R.E.M.: From the live disc that accompanies the 25th anniversary reissue of Document.

14. "Black Diaries" - The Spook of the Thirteenth Lock: From the new album, The Brutal Here and Now.

15. "Christmas in the Sand" - Colbie Caillat: The title track from her spirited Christmas album.

16. "Miss the Mississippi and You" - Roseanne Cash: Cash plays Tipitina's Sunday.

17. "High Noon" - DJ Shadow: From his new best-of album, Reconstructed. Win tickets to the show here.

18. "All Night Right of Way" - Quintron: On Friday, Quintron and Miss Pussycat are part of a benefit at Siberia for New Jersey's WFMU, which was damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Also on the bill are Katey Red, Happy Talk Band, Die Rotzz, Guitar Lightnin' Lee and the Thunder Ban.

19. "AP Touro" - Rebirth Brass Band: Rebirth Brass Band celebrates its 24th anniversary Friday at the Howlin' Wolf, with the Joe Krown Trio with Walter "Wolfman" Washington.

20. "Stranger Me" - Amy LaVere and Shannon McNally: From Chasing the Ghost Rehearsal Sessions. LaVere will play The Circle Bar Sunday.

21. "Hanging Up My Stockings" - Debbie Davis: From A Very Threadhead Holiday.
