Metallica Joins Voodoo
The metal legends replace Green Day on Voodoo's Saturday night.
After Green Day withdrew from this year's lineup for The Voodoo Experience, speculation as to who might replace them on the lineup was heated as people threw out names out of hope or from checking touring schedules. Florence and the Machine, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson were among the guesses, but Metallica was the popular guess, fueled by a screen grab of a Facebook post - subsequently pulled down - that read:
ATTENTION ALL KIRK HAMMETT BOOK SIGNING WINNERS!!
I just received a phone call from Kirk Hammett of Metallica and it looks like the powers that be are adding a Metallica show in New Orleans because of the cancellation of Green Day the night of October 27th so we will probably be changing the Kirk Hammett signing to Sunday, October 28th.
According to a press release from Voodoo, producer Stephen Rehage says:
After a hectic few days - and sleepless nights - having Metallica, one of the world’s greatest bands agree to perform at VOODOO in the place of Green Day, only two weeks before the festival, feels pretty surreal at the moment - like being part of rock & roll history in the making…something you will tell your grandkids about years from now. We are incredibly grateful to Metallica and their management team for supporting us in this unprecedented manner. I am sure Metallica’s performance at Voodoo will be remembered for many years to come.
Metallica's Lars Ulrich adds:
We are excited to be part of our first ever Voodoo Music + Arts Experience. Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way. We’re hoping we can fill those very large shoes and do them proud.
