Tickets go on sale today for Buku 2016, which will return to Mardi Gras World in March with a strong lineup topped by Kid a Pretty Lights live set, Kid Cudi, and CHVRCHES.
Buku Music and Art Project will be returning to Mardi Gras World for its fifth installment on March 11-12, 2016. Winter Circle Productions and Huka Entertainment released the festival’s lineup Monday, boasting headliners such as Pretty Lights, Kid Cudi, CHVRCHES, and Future, and accompanied the announcement with a highly stylized, twerk-filled video.
This year’s lineup also includes Above & Beyond, Nero, Fetty Wap, GRiZ, Crystal Castles,A$AP Ferg, Cashmere Cat, Earl Sweatshirt, and artists who have appeared on our “Freshly Spilt Milk” weekly mix of new music, Baauer, Yellow Claw, Tchami, and local Fro-Yo Ma. Other local performers include Mystikal, Juvenile, DJ Soul Sister, and Donovan Wolfington. For the full lineup so far, visit Buku’s website.
I am particularly stoked about Future, who many claim to be one of the hardest working rappers in the game right now. Although he can be difficult to understand, upon inspection you’ll find Future’s lyrics rich with metaphor and intricate wordplay. The Atlanta rapper’s single, "F*ck Up Some Commas," has received airplay since it was released in March, and has earned a lot of respect for past mixtapes such as Monster and 56 Nights, which featured "March Madness."
Miike Snow should put on a good show as well. Ever since the Swedish group released “Animal” in 2009, I have been an avid fan. Their most recent release, “Heart is Full,” is a groovy indie pop anthem that is driven by boom-bap percussion.
Finally, Pretty Lights is a renowned electronic entertainer who frequently plays with a full band to augment the live performance of his carefully orchestrated music. The prolific producer’s most recently released mix was done for SiriusXM’s Electric Area, and it features songs from several of his hits as well as new music from his peers.
Weekend tickets for Buku go on sale today at 11 a.m. Central.
