Soul Rebels, Tank and the Bangas, AF the Naysayer Play the New Orleans Music Awards

It seems only appropriate that on the day of the Iowa Caucuses My Spilt Milk announces that fans of music in New Orleans will have yet another chance to have their say. In December, we announced that this would be the first year for My Spilt Milk’s New Orleans Music Awards, and now we can announce that the event will take place Thursday, April 7 at The Howlin’ Wolf.

Kevin Hart, Kendrick Lamar Explore Blackness at Essence

[Updated] In a way, the Essence Festival is yet another measure of how different the experience is between white and black America. Thursday night, the festival sold out its three-year-old “Essence Now” night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with headliner Kevin Hart, who is only starting to find a white audience even though Hart’s 2011 “Laugh at My Pain” was one of the year’s top-selling comedy tours.

Getting Music Out of The Music Box

(The Music Box: Roving Village City Park opens Friday with concerts at 7 and 9 p.m., then Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. It will remain in place until May 10, and it will be open to the public on the weekends from noon to 6 p.m. Yesterday, we presented the first half of this story, focusing on the journey of The Music Box from The Bywater in 2011 to City Park today.
