'tit Rex Meets its People

Saturday night, ’tit Rex, New Orleans’ first microkrewe, rolled through the Bywater and I rolled with it. My wife and I have been a part of the krewe for five years, and this year’s theme, “L’Enfant Terrible,” inspired what I thought to be the krewe’s most consistent parade. To my mind, it had the right balance of heart—two shoebox-sized tributes to the late Veronica Russell, who was also a member of ‘tit Rex—and wit.

Wizard World Comic Con Goes Girl Crazy

My introduction to this year's Wizard World Comic Con came Saturday with lines dotted with Imperial Stormtroopers, superheroes, Drs. Who from a few incarnations, and cosplayers from across the pop culture spectrum. The lines to get in stretched in and out of the Morial Convention Center, but no one seemed to be particularly troubled by this development. Instead, the overall vibe was that they were among their people.

Boudin and Emeril Everywhere

[Updated] Fans of celebrity chefs--whether nationally or locally famous--were made happy Friday night when two tents' worth of chefs from around the South participated in the Emeril Lagasse Foundation's Boudin, Bourbon, and Beer, which had grown big enough to move easily into Champions Square. The event is one of the foundation's two fundraisers, along with Carnivale du Vin, which took place Saturday night.
