Our Schedules and Highlights for Jazz Fest's First Weekend

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell starts Friday, and it approaches, thoughts inevitably turn to the weather. Friday and Saturday look beautiful, but as of this writing, Weather Underground shows a 70 percent or greater chance of rain with thunderstorms starting at 10 a.m. and continuing into Monday morning. The takeaway: Enjoy Jazz Fest while you can.

Jazz Fest: Pitbull's Tongue and Gaga's Gowns

What’s up with Pitbull and his tongue? Sunday at Jazz Fest, I watched much of his set from the back of Congo Square to see if he was reaching people—he was—but when I moved up for the last 15 minutes, I noticed his tongue lolling around in his mouth when he wasn’t singing. That doesn’t happen every day or with every singer. And how does a guy get to be Mr. Worldwide rolling his tongue around like that? Then I saw photographer Patrick Ainsworth’s Pitbull photos and it appears to have been a set-long thing.

Life During Bowl Time

The Super Bowl is over, the lights are back on in the Dome, and know we're left with the second week of Carnival starting tomorrow. Here are a few random post-Bowl thoughts:

- It was clear this weekend that hip-hop and urban R&B are the music America parties to. Over the course of the weekend, Lil Wayne, Nelly, Ludacris, Big Boi, Flo Rida and Pitbull performed (that I'm aware of). Add to that Justin Timberlake, Janelle Monae, Santigold, The Roots, Diplo and Solange Knowles (doing a DJ set), and the evidence is hard to argue with.

Lil Wayne Wants to Spend the Night in Paris

Fans of Lil Wayne would like a reason to believe that the Weezy circa Tha Carter II and III still lives somewhere in him. A sure measure that that still isn't happening: ending up on TMZ.com. How does he end up there? By collaborating with Paris Hilton. The celebrity website has assembled its own video to accompany "Last Night," a track by Afrojack rumored to have been originally intended for her that showed up on Pitbull's Global Warming album.
