Addy Najera Is Just Trying to Have Some Fun

Tonight, Addy Najera will record her first comedy album, Isn’t This Fun. It’s not something she’s dreamed of, though. Najera has no fond recollections of memorizing Steve Martin routines from A Wild and Crazy Guy, or of having new worlds opened to her while listening to albums by George Carlin, Joan Rivers, Sam Kinison or Margaret Cho.

See Christian Finnegan at the New Movement This Weekend

You know stand-up comedian Christian Finnegan, whether you know it or not. He's a familiar face who was part of the team of comedians that commented on current events as a part of VH-1's Best Week Ever, and he has appeared on Chappelle's ShowAre We There Yet?, and Comedy Central specials. Finnegan also has a good new comedy podcast, Audio Spackle, that is worth checking out.

Water Park's Megan Simon Gives Humor a Voice

Comedian, musician, actress. Megan Simon is all three, and ever since high school, people have been well-aware of that. “The Yearbook staff came up to me and said, ‘Hey Megan, you won two superlatives and you have to pick one: ‘Most Likely to Win a Grammy’ and ‘Most Likely to Win an Oscar.’ I chose the Oscar,” she says.

Theo Von Is A Stand-Up Guy

“When I have free time, I text strangers.” This might seem like an usual hobby, but for stand-up comedian Theo Von, founder of the absurd and amusing CrankTexts website, it’s one of several hobbies that has brought him success. Von takes the phone numbers of friends, switches up a few numbers, and starts a conversation. His website features photos of the resulting text messages. “I’ve texted around 30,000 numbers at this point,” Von says.

Just Say Hell Yes

"Come up with a cool name like Hand Bomb, Water Park, The Language. These would also be cool band names."

For The New Movement Theater's Chris Trew, if your improv comedy troupe's name could be mistaken for that of a band on Secretly Canadian Records, you could be good. It's not a completely reliable tell, but it's accurate enough, and survey of the improv groups that will perform at this year's Hell Yes Fest in New Orleans reveals many such groups: CB Radio, Shipwrecked!, Personality Plus and The Green Team to name a few.
