Dave Rosser on the Value of Being a Good Hang

[I was sad to wake up this morning and learn that Dave Rosser’s battle with colon cancer has come to its inevitable end. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and all the people he touched along the way. Here is an encore presentation of the story we ran in 2014 when he played The Circle Bar with his own band, The Get Busy.]

Thundercat Drops "Drunk" Before Buku, While Benjamin Booker Bears Witness

Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner is one of the best bassists in the universe, but he is arguably better known as a goof than a god. His bromance with Eric Andre, his absurdist Adult Swim-style videos and the fact that he’s usually dressed like he’s on his way from a Renaissance fare to a cosplay convention only exacerbate the situation.

Still Looking for Thunders

It’s pretty much a given that the makers of music documentaries are too in love with their subjects to do the job. The DVD of Looking for Johnny—a documentary on The New York Dolls and Heartbreakers’ Johnny Thunders—was released late last year, and it further illustrates this point. The film’s not too long, which is usually the problem, nor does director Danny Garcia obsess over fan-only minutiae in Thunders’ life.

Delicate Steve Leaves His Room

Dave Alvin sat in an ant bed while talking to me on the phone. Victor Wooten hit a deer during our interview, and recently the string of calamity continued. "One of the guys in the van just opened a carbonated beverage all over himself," said Steve Marion during our interview. Marion is the principal voice behind Delicate Steve, and he was in a van on a tour that brings him to The Circle Bar tonight (presented by My Spilt Milk). So far, it has been a one-man project, but taking it on tour with a band may be changing that.
