Voodoo News: Voodoo Changes Its Story

Last year, the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience changed its narrative for the better. The Halloween weekend festival swapped its second main stage for Le Plur in 2010, and the changes it endured in the following years appeared to tell the story of a festival in decline. Some indicators were misleading and some weren’t Voodoo’s fault.

Foo Fighters, Kendrick, LCD Soundsystem and DJ Snake Top Voodoo 2017 Lineup

Last week, Foo Fighters made news when out of the blue they released the single “Run,” and made more when its video was viewed 2.2 million times in the first 24 hours. Today, they’re in the news again as they’re slated to return to the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience, along with Kendrick Lamar, The Killers, LCD Soundsystem and DJ Snake.

Tool, The Weeknd, Arcade Fire Top Voodoo Lineup

Last year's Voodoo Music + Arts Experience was a fraught one even before rain and mud forced it to end a day early. The presence of country rock artists The Zac Brown Band on the lineup and Deadmau5 as a festival closer seemed to be a sign that a festival that began 18 years ago as an alternative rock event had lost its way.

Voodoo News: No Voodoo Sunday

[Updated] Organizers of the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience have contended all week that it is a rain-or-shine experience, but this morning they announced that the festival's final day is cancelled.

"Due to dangerous weather conditions including forecasted persistent rain and flash flood warnings for Orleans Parish for Sunday, November 1, the final day of the 2015 Voodoo Music and Arts Experience has been cancelled."

Voodoo News: Sunday's Picks

Saturday didn't deliver the monsoon we were led to expect, but the continuous light rain, combined with all the foot traffic, took its toll on City Park's festival grounds. The plot of land that hosts Voodoo doesn't drain particularly well, so leaving after Ozzy Osbourne's closing set meant a literally joyless slog through mud and standing water--thankfully shallow, but still .... With that in mind, our top pick for Sunday is shoes you don't care about or shrimp boots that can take a beating.

Florence + The Machine, Jack Ü, Ozzy and Friends, Deadmau5 and More Headline Voodoo 2015

The 17th edition of the Voodoo Music Experience presents perhaps its most eccentric top-line talent when it returns to City Park’s Festival Grounds October 30 to November 1. Florence + The Machine will headline, along with Diplo and Skrillex’s trap team-up Jack Ü, Ozzy Osbourne featuring Geezer Butler, Tom Morello and Slash, Jane’s Addiction, Zac Brown Band, and Deadmau5.
