Little Love for LA at the Grammys

This year, Louisiana's best hopes of bringing home Grammys come from people who've left the state for bigger success. Christopher Breaux was a singer, songwriter and student at UNO before he moved to Los Angeles, became Frank Ocean and released the excellent Nostalgia Ultra mixtape and, this year, Channel Orange, which earned him four nominations including Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

Frank Ocean

Last year, Frank Ocean had about as big a year as you can have without selling an album. His Nostalgia Ultra mixtape was among my top albums of 2011 - an album of romantically troubled R&B that was as current as it was unreleaseable due to numerous unclearable samples (Don Henley threatened to sue him for the use of "Hotel California" in "American Wedding," even though the mixtape was a free download).
