Arctic Monkeys Are Overrated Performers But Underrated Musicians at Voodoo

Arctic Monkeys were the band everyone was supposed to know in 2013, but festival crowds today don’t seem to know what to do with them. They catapulted to mainstream fame with their fifth studio album, AM, which made them headliners on the summer rock festival circuit. They headlined one night of Voodoo in 2014, when they performed to a much more lively, engaged crowd than their 2018 audience.

McNally's Good Place & AM/Shawn Lee Two Times

Songwriter Bobby Charles was one of Louisiana's overlooked treasures - a songwriter whose natural, conversational lyrics and effortless melodies obscured his homespun wisdom. Before he passed away in 2010, Shannon McNally cut an album of his songs produced by Charles' long-time friend and collaborator, Dr. John. That album, Small Town Talk - The Songs of Bobby Charles, is due out on vinyl on April 16 (in time for National Record Store Day) and in other forms April 30.

Selling Celestial

The music industry's changing in so many ways, but one that isn't is promotion. Technology has made the early release of free mp3s possible, and daily music news websites make soft news such as cover art previews and tracklisting announcements possible, but once the album's out, an artist has  three months or so to push it, after which time the label cuts bait and moves on if nothing's happening.
